Overview of miniObserve features

miniObserve is designed to provide an administration support tool to store and manage the data arising from observation programmes for any organisation, but particularly Colleges of Further Education, schools, work based learning providers and public sector organisations that provide support services to individuals. miniObserve saves considerable administration time, particularly in analysing this data.

It is designed to save observation grades and data for individuals so that progress over time can be demonstrated both on screen and through hard copy reports. In addition the files for individuals can be grouped together to produce a number of group reports. Observe provides extensive management information at the click of a mouse.

1. miniObserve is designed for organisations that undertake observation programmes without an framework that includes a number of observation indicators. The framework uses 3 perpectives, Learning, Teaching and Attainment. The frameworks has criteria for four grades. miniObserve is totally flexible in that an observation framework can be customised to mirror the existing framework of an organisation.

2. miniObserve is designed to enable those undertaking observation to enter the results of their observations efficiently both in terms of grading and the details of the event. There is an option to view the grading of previous observations.

3. miniObserve can provides a hard copy observation report which also shows grade progress over time and a separate training needs report. It also provides a report which lists all observations carried out over a period, say the current academic year, compared to those possible and then provides a report for staff that have been observed by department.

4. A major feature of miniObserve is the comparison feature which enables the files of individuals to be grouped together in a range of ways by department, position, type of learner, teaching level, observer etc. so that comparison reports can be compiled to compare the grades of the individuals in the selected group and to show the % grades for the group. It can also produce reports to show statistics by academic year, the event characteristics relative to absenteeism and demand for specific training modules. The feature can also show the issues arising for groups of staff .

There is a User Guide in .pdf format which is accessed by clicking Read on opening the program or by clicking Help>User Guide on the main menu bar. There are Quick Tutorials in Power Point 'show' format. These are accessed immediately after the initial 'splash' screen and describe in detail the functionality of the screens relevant to specific areas of work .
